Günther VII. (Schwarzburg-Blankenburg)

Günther VII von Schwarzburg (* between 1217 and 1227; † between September 19, 1275 and September 25, 1278; ▭ in the Ilm Monastery) was Count von Schwarzburg-Blankenburg from 1236 .

Life

Günther was a son of Count Heinrich II von Schwarzburg from his marriage to Countess Irmgard von Weimar-Orlamünde († around 1222).

Around 1228/29 Günther accompanied Kaiser Friedrich II on his crusade to the Holy Land . In 1236 he followed his father as Count von Schwarzburg-Blankenburg and was, after the death of his brother Heinrich III. 1259 also Count von Schwarzburg.

In the Thuringian War of Succession Günther was captured 1248/49.

The count founded the monastery in Saalfeld in 1267 and in 1275 in the Ilm monastery in Stadtilm.
