Günther Zöller

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Günther Zöller (* 1908 in Aachen , † 2002 in Aachen) was a German Major in the era of National Socialism .

Major Zöller had been in command of the Heeresmunitionsanstalt Urlau since March 1, 1945 . The army ammunition facility (Muna) was to be blown up along with the thousands of tons of poison gas ammunition stored there on the basis of the Nero order on the order of the National Socialist Gauleitung. The explosive ammunition was attached in April 1945. Zöller managed, however, to prevent the Muna from being blown up by refusing to give orders . He handed over the depot on April 28, 1945 to the approaching French army units. He saved the Allgäu from a poison gas catastrophe that would have killed thousands of people and made the area uninhabitable for a long time.

Günther Zöller lived again in Aachen after the war, where he worked as an engineer.
