G-Protein Rop

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rop proteins ( English Rho of plants , Rho protein of the plants') are among the monomeric (small) G-proteins and are only found in plants. They have an important function in plant signal transmission within the cell. In processes such as B. the plant immune response , the growth of the pollen tube or the determination of the different plant cell shapes, Rop proteins are indispensable.

Like all G proteins, Rops have intrinsic GTPase activity. As with other G proteins, the nucleotide exchange is catalyzed by GTP exchange factors (also known as RopGEF).
