The GAF N-22B Nomad is a twin-engine shoulder -wing aircraft manufactured by the Australian Government Aircraft Factories and flew for the first time on July 23, 1971. The Nomad is powered by two turboprop engines and has no pressurized cabin .
history
The GAF N-22B Nomad was originally designed for the Australian Army as a small support transporter, but was then also used for the civilian market. It has STOL properties for short runways. Fully loaded, she needs 515 meters for take-offs and around 430 meters for landings. A large, double-wing cargo gate on the left is used for loading and unloading or for passengers to get on and off.
With the N-24 , a version that has been extended by 1.14 m and offers space for 17 passengers was created. 57 of these were built.
Production was discontinued in 1988 after a total of 172 copies with different equipment.
The Australian aircraft manufacturer GippsAero , a subsidiary of Mahindra Aerospace from India, is planning to resume production under the code GA18 . GippsAero acquired the rights to the Nomad from Boeing Australia in 2008. The GA18 is an aircraft that has been improved in many ways. The main focus was on greater efficiency and safety as well as modern avionics. According to the manufacturer, the first machine will be taken over by the customer in 2015.
construction
The hull is made of all-metal construction. It has a rectangular cross-section. The rear part of the fuselage can be folded to the side to facilitate the loading process. The fuselage has a large door on the left.
The aircraft is a stripped shoulder-wing aircraft. The wings are made of all-metal construction. On the lower edge of the fuselage there are wing stubs to accommodate the main landing gear. The wing stubs are braced with the wings. The wings have electrically operated double slotted flaps and pneumatic de-icing.
The tail unit is of normal construction. The undamped tailplane is offset a little upwards. All rudders have trim tabs. De-icing takes place pneumatically. The oars are operated via a double control.
The aircraft has a retractable nose wheel landing gear. The nose wheel retracts forward. The main wheels with double tires are located in the chassis nacelles on the wing stubs.
