GAIA accumulator works

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The GAIA Akkumulatorenwerke GmbH was a battery manufacturer in Nordhausen . He developed and produced batteries at the site of the former IFA Motorenwerke, which were used in particular in the automotive sector for electric and hybrid vehicles as well as for pleasure craft and in aerospace technology .

The bankruptcy of the former parent company and the low number of electric cars to date meant that Gaia and one of its main customers, the outsourced EAS Germany GmbH, got into economic difficulties. In December 2016, GAIA initiated bankruptcy proceedings; EAS Germany GmbH filed for insolvency in June 2017.

On July 17, 2017, the Mühlhausen District Court announced that GAIA had been sold to the Bulgarian Monbat Group, an international battery manufacturer.

At that time, GAIA / EAS was considered by some to be "the last bastion of battery cell production in Germany". Varta Microbattery at the Ellwangen site already existed then and as of 2019 there are other players such as Custom Cells Itzehoe .
