GDF-CO3 is a mobile air defense system from Switzerland . The Oerlikon 35 mm twin cannon is used as an anti-aircraft gun .
history
Oerlikon -Bührle produced the GDF series as a mobile air defense system for object protection in the hinterland. First, Oerlikon developed a traction system. However, the weapon had the potential to be mounted on a vehicle. For this, a 4x4 truck was converted and lightly armored. Another version was on the chassis of the M113 - infantry fighting vehicle built. The GDF series is used not only in Switzerland , but also in Finland and Norway .
technology
The most common variant, the 4x4 vehicle, is based on the HYKA truck. GDF-CO3 is all weather capable. The vehicle uses a Contraves search radar to find its destination . The distance measurement works with a laser rangefinder. The actual weapon system works fully automatically. In the 4x4 truck, the turret is in a depression behind the crew compartment.
GDF systems fire a variety of different types of ammunition. In addition to high-explosive HE shells for air defense, sub-caliber sabot projectiles can also be used for ground defense.
Thanks to the relatively large wheels and the relatively small size for a wheeled vehicle, GDF-CO3 can wade to a depth of 60 centimeters and cross a ditch that is 1.80 meters wide. With the full chain version, the data is based on the M113 .
