Until its merger with GNS on September 30, 2004, there was a 100% participation in Gesellschaft für Nuklear-container mbH (GNB) - specializing in the development and manufacture of nuclear containers (e.g. CASTOR containers).

Recalled CASTOR containers

In 2014 the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) prohibited the use of a total of 44 containers for nuclear waste with high heat generation. The reason is a possibly incomplete check of the container on delivery. Four castors are already loaded and are in the interim storage facility at the Unterweser nuclear power plant in the Wesermarsch district . The Federal Environment Ministry says: "The fact that quality regulations for Castor containers are not adhered to is simply not acceptable."
