The GRG 6 Rahlgasse is a federal high school and federal real high school in Mariahilf in Vienna . The school building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

In 1888 an association was founded with the aim of setting up a girls' high school. This goal was achieved in 1892 with the establishment of the first girls' high school in Austria. The school founder was Marianne Hainisch . The first girls' class with 30 girls was opened in Hegelgasse. In 1903 the school was given public rights. In 1910 the school moved to Rahlgasse 4 in Vienna's 6th district.

When Austria was annexed to Hitler's Germany, the school was nationalized and Jewish students were excluded from the school. From 1943, the Rahlgasse grammar school became a Wehrmacht overnight home as many soldiers had to move from the western front to the eastern front, and Vienna served as a stopover. The pupils at that time were taught in other schools. When the Russians conquered Vienna in 1945, the soldiers fled to continue fighting despite the order.

After the war the caretaker, teachers and students helped to rebuild the school house. On July 5, 1945, classes could be resumed.

principal

  • 1945–1977 Maria Jacot; introduced the name "Bundesrealgymnasium und -gymnasium for girls, Rahlgasse 4".
  • 1978–1992 Martha Schieferdecker; introduced numerous reforms. Under her leadership, boys were admitted to school for the first time and lessons only took place 5 days a week. KoKoKo (communication - cooperation - conflict resolution) and open learning deal more and more with the social conditions in a class and the specific talents of individual students. In addition, the centenary of Austria's first humanistic girls' high school was celebrated during her tenure.
  • 1992–2010 Heidi Schrodt; the redefinition and further development of co-education were a central concern of her. On May 27, 1994 the completely renovated school building opened. Under her leadership, the old project ideas (support for girls, anti-racism, tolerance) were transformed into the school's new mission statement and the three school priorities (gender - environment - social, called GUS) were further developed. Working with girls and boys developed into gender officers and interveners who have been contributing to social learning for many "generations". From the variety of interests and talents, the "course-like elective subjects" arose, which give the students the opportunity to prepare for life at the university.
  • 2010/2011 Erika Ackerl; headed the transition phase on an interim basis for 7 months.
  • since 2011 Ilse Rollett; has been running the school since July 1st, 2011.

Educational work, equipment and offers

  • In 2015, the school was awarded the Austrian School Prize in the gender equality category with 2nd place.
