GS66 is an apple variety. The natural cross was found by a fruit grower in an orchard in the Hildesheimer Börde , Lower Saxony . With his many years of experience, he combined old and newer apple varieties until he found GS 66. GS stands for the initials of the Lower Saxon producer and 66 for the position of the original tree in the row of trees. The parent varieties are unknown. The apple has a crisp, crisp texture and a balanced sweetness and acidity.
Cultivation
The apple variety is currently grown by six producer organizations in four German regions: Württembergische Obstgenossenschaft Raiffeisen, Fruit Wholesale Central Baden and Marktgemeinschaft Bodensee in Baden-Württemberg, Veos in Saxony as well as Elbe-Obst and Marktgemeinschaft Altes Land in Lower Saxony and Hamburg. This means that the variety is grown in all parts of Germany. The topic of regionality is a characteristic of this apple in breeding, cultivation and marketing.
