Gabriel Bataille
Gabriel Bataille (* around 1575 in the Brie ; † December 17, 1630 in Paris ) was a French lutenist and composer .
Bataille lived and worked at the French royal court. There he held the position of music master, initially with Maria von Medici , who reigned for her son Louis XIII. held, then for Ludwig's wife, Anna of Austria.
Nine books by him with Airs de Cour and Airs à boire (drinking songs) for voice and lute have come down to us. Between 1608 and 1615 six collections (livres) appeared under the title Airs de différentes autheurs, mis en tabulature de luth par Gabriel Bataille . Bataille also produced numerous ballet music for use at court. Individual works can be found in various contemporary collections of the Parisian publisher Ballard.
