Gabriel Shelly

Gabriel Thomas Shelly (born October 24, 1968 in Dublin ) is an Irish bocce player. As an Irish international, he took part in the Paralympic Games several times .

Career

Shelly, who has had infantile cerebral palsy since birth , first took part in the 1990 boccia world championships in Assen and won the bronze medal in the team competition. In 1996 Shelly first took part in the Summer Paralympics in Atlanta . Four years later he won his first Paralympic medal in Sydney , namely gold in the individual competition in the BC1 competition class. He could this success in 2004 in Athens but not repeat.

Shelly also took part in the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008 . There he won bronze in the individual competition in the competition class BC1 and defeated the Chinese Wang Yi. He had defeated Shelly's teammate Padraic Moran in the preliminary round the day before. Shelly won the first medal for Ireland at the Paralympic Games in 2008. 2012 in London , he could not build on this success.
