Gabriele Gorzka

Gabriele Gorzka (* 1949 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German researcher on Eastern Europe. From 1990 to 1994 she was Vice President of the University of Kassel .

Career

Gabriele Gorzka studied Slavic and English from 1969 to 1975 at the Philipps University of Marburg and at the University of Exeter , England.

After passing the 1st state examination for teaching at grammar schools in the subjects of Russian, English and pedagogy in 1975, she earned her doctorate in 1979. phil. in Slavic Studies at the Philipps University of Marburg.

From 1978 to 1990 she was a research associate at the Center for Vocational and University Research at the University of Kassel and lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Kassel with a focus on Eastern European history.

In 1990 she was elected Vice President of the University of Kassel with responsibility for teaching and study matters, international relations, the promotion of young academics and women in studies and teaching. In 1992 she was re-elected to this office for a further two years.

From 1995 to 1996 she was a guest lecturer in "Eastern European History" at the Institute for History at the University of Basel , Switzerland.

From 1994 until her retirement in 2016 she headed the East-West Science Center at the University of Kassel .

Research priorities

Gabriele Gorzka's research dealt with aspects of the social and cultural history of the early Soviet Union as well as Russia as a location for science and research.

  • 2010: Letter of Honor and Silver Bear from the City of Jaroslavl for long-term services to cultural cooperation.
