Gad (Prophet)
Gad was an Old Testament prophet . He lived at the time of King David and is called David's seer in 2 Samuel 24, 11 LUT .
Mention in the Bible
Gad is mentioned for the first time in 1 Samuel 22: 5 LUT , where he asks David, when he was fleeing from Saul in the land of Moab , to go to the land of Judah .
Another mention of Gad is in 2 Samuel 24, 11-14 LUT . After David had the people counted , contrary to the prohibition in Exodus 30, 11-16 LUT , Gad received the order from the Lord to convey the message to David that he could choose the punishment for his offense from three possible punishments .
Subsequently, Gad instructs David to erect an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunas (2 Samuel 24, 18 LUT or 1. Chronicles 21, 18 LUT ). This is the place where David's son Solomon was later to build the temple .
In addition, reference is made in 1. Chronicles 29, 29 LUT to the ( now lost ) story of Gad, the seer , in which the story of King David is written along with some other books referenced there.
