Gag Manga Biyori ( Japanese ギ ャ グ マ ン ガ 日 和 ) is a manga series by Kōsuke Masuda that has been published in Japan since 2000. The grotesque comedy series has been adapted as an anime several times since 2002 . In addition, four plays are based on the manga.

The series tells absurd stories in short episodes that take place in everyday Japanese work, but also against a fantastic, mythical or historical background. While some of the episodes describe a story that builds on one another and some characters recur, most of the stories have no relation to one another.
publication
The manga appeared in September 2000 in the magazine Gekkan Shōnen Jump of the Shueisha publishing house . After its discontinuation in June 2007, the series moved to Jump Square , where it was completed in November 2014. Since December 2014, the sequel Masuda Kōsuke Gekijō Gag Manga Biyori GB appears in the same magazine .
The chapters have also been published collectively in 15 volumes. The sequel has so far reached three volumes. The anthologies achieved multiple placements in the Manga sales charts. For the first series the final volume with 66,000 copies sold in the first two weeks. The sequel has so far reached up to 55,000 sales in the same time with the 1st volume. For the third volume, sales fell below 20,000 in the first week.
Anime
The first implementation of the manga as an anime was made in 2002 in the form of a 12-minute short film for the Jump Festa . The production was done at Toei Animation . For the 2005 television series, production moved to Studio Artland . Directed by Akitarō Daichi and responsible producer was Norihiro Hayashida . By 2010 a total of 62 episodes, each with a running time of 5 minutes, were created.
The first season with 12 episodes was shown from February 7 to April 25, 2005 at Kids Station in Japan. This was followed by three more seasons with 12 more, most recently 26 episodes. Repetitions or later also parallel broadcasts took place on KBS Kyoto , Chukyo TV , TV Kanagawa , TV Saitama and Yomiuri TV .

The music for the series was composed by Harukichi Yamamoto . The opening credits of the first season are underlaid with the song Atakku! Gyagu Manga Biyori ( ア タ ッ ク! ギ ャ グ マ ン ガ 日 和 ) and the second season with Oafu! Hawai Biyori ( オ ア フ! ハ ワ イ 日 和 ). Both songs are from Yuji Ueda .
