Gaižiūnai is a village with 167 inhabitants (2011). It is located in the Dumsiai district , in the Lithuanian Rajonggemeinde Jonava , on the Jonava - Kaišiadorys railway line .
At Gaižiūnai there are railways to Vilnius and Kaunas . In the west flows the Taurosta (the left tributary of the Neris ). Not far is Polygon Gaižiūnai . To the south lies the Gaižiūnai Forest . There was a military airport ( Gaižiūnai airfield ).
history
In 1930 the Gaižiūnai military training area was built here.
After the Soviet treaty of 1939, the Red Army came to Gaižiūnai.
In June 1940, up to the ultimatum on Lithuania, seven Desant soldiers ( NKVD divers) were thrown. 1959 lived 300 inhabitants.
