The map from 1836 shows Gaidaros still as a peninsula

The island is located about 250 m east of the coast near Kyparissi . It consists of two hills, the west of which reaches a height of 104 m. The island has a length from west to east of about 2.2 km and a maximum width of 1.7 km. The southern flat part of the island is connected to the mainland by an approximately 250 m long dam. South of the eastern tip of the island is the Mitros peninsula . There are several fish farms around the island .

Before 1894, Gaidaros was a peninsula. During the great earthquake on April 20, 1894 (according to the Orthodox calendar on April 8, 1894) Gaidaros was separated from the mainland.
