The Gais was a measure of weight in Shirvan (now a historical area of Azerbaijan ), a Russian province that was Persian until 1812. The measure belonged to the group of the Meidan weight, which was considered the common measure. There was also the Misan weight or Attar for the retail trade. In addition to this grain measure , there were also the Tagar and the Tschinach .

  • according to Schekl weight 10 Gais = 1 Tagara = 6 Tschinachs (large) = 20 Tschinachs (small)
  • to Agdasch 10 Gais = 1 Tagara = 30 Tschinachs
