Gaius Baebius (Tribune of the People)
Gaius Baebius († after 111 BC) was a politician of the Roman Republic from the plebeian family of the Baebier .
In 111 BC Gaius Baebius officiated as tribune of the people and was bribed by Jugurtha when he came to Rome under the assurance of safe conduct . Thereupon Baebius forbade the Numidian king to speak in the popular assembly when another tribune, Gaius Memmius , asked Jugurtha to testify against Roman military leaders. Investigations in this regard have thus been thwarted.
