Gaius Curtius Iustus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaius Curtius Iustus (full name form Gaius Curtius Gai filius Pollia Iustus ) was a Roman politician living in the 2nd century AD . Through an inscription that was found in Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa , individual stations of his career are known, which he completed in the first half of the 2nd century.

Justus was inscribed in the tribe of Pollia ; he probably came from northern Italy. The inscription shows that he was originally a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ), who was accepted into the Senate by Hadrian and that, up to his consulate , he was Legatus legionis of Legio XX Valeria Victrix and governor ( Legatus Augusti pro praetore ) was in the province of Dacia .

A papyrus in Greek dated October 2, 150 and a military diploma dated November 19, 150, prove that Iustus 150 was suffect consul with Gaius Iulius Iulianus ; the two therefore held this office at least from October to November.

Further diplomas, e.g. Some of them are dated April 23, 157, prove that Iustus 157 was governor of the province of Moesia superior . An inscription dated 158/159 proves that he honorably discharged soldiers of Legio VII Claudia from service. He was therefore probably governor in the province from 157 to 160.

Justus is attested by another inscription as consul and governor. Gaius Curtius Gai filius Pollia Rufinus , which is documented by two inscriptions, should have been his son.
