Gaius Domitius Dexter
Gaius Domitius Dexter was a Roman politician and senator in the late 2nd century AD.
Dexter was a suffect consul before 183 because he is attested as a legacy of the province of Syria for the year 183 . He was probably the immediate successor of the future emperor Pertinax . Perhaps Septimius Severus had met him as governor when he himself commanded the legio IV Scythica stationed in this province . The fact that Dexter became city prefect at the end of June 193 shows how much Severus trusted him, for the office was of exceptional importance during the new emperor's long absence from the city of Rome and Italy. Dexter received the special honor of having a second consulate in 196.
