Gaius Hedius Verus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaius Hedius Verus (full name form Gaius Hedius Gai filius Clustumina Verus ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 2nd century AD . Through an inscription found in Forum Sempronii , individual stations of his career, which he completed in the first half of the 2nd century, are known.

The military career of Verus initially consisted of the usual Tres militiae for a member of the equestrian order . First, as prefect , he took over the management of the Cohors II Lingonum equitata , which was stationed in the province of Britannia . He then became a tribune of the Legio II Traiana fortis , which was stationed in Aegyptus . The third stage was the command as prefect of the Ala Indiana pia fidelis , which was stationed in Germania superior .

With a military diploma , the term post quem is determined for his military career, since he was commander of the Cohors II Lingonum on August 20, 127 . In addition, the diploma shows that he came from Pitinum Mergens . Verus was enrolled in the Tribus Clustumina .

The inscription is placed on the front of a pedestal on which his statue had stood. On the left side of the base is the letter of the Duoviri and Decurionen from Forum Sempronii to Verus, with which they inform him that they have erected a statue for him.
