Gaius Iulius Nicanor
Gaius Iulius Nicanor was the son of the philosopher Areios and brother of Dionysius . Like his brother, he was friends with Augustus .
He is probably not identical with Iulius Nikanor, who is referred to on an Attic inscription as the "new Homer and new Themistocles" and can be identified with the Nikanor named by Dion of Prusa , who bought the island of Salamis back from the Athenians (hence the "new Themistocles") ) and was probably also an epic poet ("new Homer").
