Galeas (merchant ship type)
As a schooner or Galeass ( English Galeas ) were referred to the mid-18th century, a zweimastiges commercial or cargo ship with high foremast , which primarily on the Baltic Sea and North Sea was used.
Typical galleries are masted like a ketch and have a keel and a flat stern . A distinction is made between a hooker and a sloop galeas, depending on whether the main mast is rigged like the foremast of the schooner brig or that of the square sail.
The galeasses were used in Germany in particular on the lower Elbe and in the Baltic Sea. Today you can only see a few of these galleries, such as the Flinthörn or the Fulvia af Anholt at sailing events on the North and Baltic Seas.
The Galeaßewer is a vehicle with an Ewer hull and Galeas rigging.
