Mutti is an Italian food producer of tomato products.

Company history

The family company was founded in 1899 by Marcellino (1862–1941) and Callisto Mutti (1870–1936) under the name Fratelli Mutti ( Mutti brothers / siblings) on the Piazza di Basilicanova , a hamlet in Montechiarugolo in the province of Parma . Her uncle was already a farmer who resorted to alternating farming in the 19th century . In addition to growing field crops , when the company was founded, they also started animal breeding and a dairy .

The brand logo was registered in 1911. In 1914 the company was awarded the Order of Merit for Work in the Kingdom of Italy . In the 1910s, the factory was connected to what was then the largest tram network in Italy, the Tranvia Parma ( Parma tram ).

With the development of preservation techniques, the forerunner of industrial vacuum cooking at the time , Mutti began producing double tomato concentrate in 1922 . In 1938 the company developed the triple concentrate.

With the Polpa di Pomodoro , a concentrate produced by means of cold pressing , Ugo Mutti (1893–1980, son of Marcellino Mutti) developed a box-office hit in 1971, according to the company's own statements .

In 1994 Francesco Mutti (* 1968) took over the management in the third generation. In 2010, the company began working with WWF to strive for greater sustainability in production, particularly in reducing CO 2 emissions and reducing the ecological footprint along the supply chain . In 2013 a new factory was opened in the Valle del Sele in Campania and the first branch outside Italy, in France.
