Fulvia af Anholt is a galeas that was launched in Faxe Ladeplads in 1898 and today sails as a traditional ship under the German flag.

history

The ship was built as a mail sailor in 1898 by order of mail driver Peter Petersen in Denmark as a mail and passenger sailor for the Grenå - Anholt route. Under the name Anna Elisabeth , it was later used as a mail and goods transport ship in the Kattegat , and later also in general freight traffic in the North and Baltic Seas. In 1903 the next owner sold JJ Norre from Aggersund , the ship was renamed Marianne and came to Lögstör ( Limfjord ). In 1918 it was sold to HE Thulin in Rudkøbing and was now called Rosa . In 1919 Thulin had the first engine built into the ship: a 1-cylinder diesel engine with 35 hp, later with 48 hp and 27 hp (1925). After another eventful career with frequently changing owners, names and home ports, the ship went to the J. Ring-Andersen shipyard in Svendborg for a total restoration from 1972 to 1975 . It has been sailing under the German flag since 1982. During the restoration, the ketch rigging was supplemented by a wide jib . In 2000 the Fulvia was again extensively restored. Large parts were re-planked, a new shaft installed, the stern post and almost all port frames replaced. The ship has belonged to a private community of owners from Cologne since 1982 and is moored in the museum harbor in Flensburg . The Fulvia regularly takes part in many sailing events such as the Rum Regatta , the Hanse Sail Rostock or the Kieler Woche .

Accidents

On July 16, 1936, the Fulvia, sailing under the name “Gudrun”, leaked after she had hit the ground and sank on the north-west coast of Livø by the Limfjord. The crew was able to save themselves with a dinghy . The cause was a severe storm in which the anchored Fulvia drifted with the anchor and ran aground. The ship, laden with stones, was recovered a short time later.

On June 12, 1939, the ship ran aground again near Hals (Limfjord) in fog and was later towed free by a salvage tug .
