The Galei Zahal ( Hebrew גלי צה״ל, as the acronym Galaz ( Hebrew גל״צ), "Waves of the Zahal ") is a radio station operated by the Israeli military .
The station is located in Jaffa . Since September 24, 1950, entertainment and information programs have been broadcast for Israeli soldiers, as well as news, music, traffic information and educational programs for the general public. According to its own statements, the station wants to report as politically neutral as possible, but it takes the censorship by the Israeli military that applies to all Israeli media particularly seriously. In addition to the main channel Galei Zahal, there is also a smaller offshoot Galgalaz ( Hebrew גלגלצ), whose program consists mainly of music and traffic news. It is broadcast in Hebrew around the clock . The signal was also broadcast on shortwave for coverage in Europe until December 2013 . Since then, the station can only be heard outside Israel via the Internet stream.
In 2015, around 25 percent of all radio listeners in Israel listened to Galei Zahal every day.
