The Ilha das Galinhas , also Ilha de Galinhas or short Galinhas is an island of about Guinea-Bissau belonging archipelago of Bissagos Islands in the Atlantic Ocean .
The state capital Bissau is about 60 km northeast. Neighboring islands are Bolama in the east , the largest of the Formosa archipelago in the west and Roxa in the south . 1500 people live on the 50 km² island. Settlements are Ambancana , Acampamento and Ametite , these with schools, as well as Ancano and Anchorupe . One of the uncertain livelihoods is the harvest of cashew nuts , which are mainly exported to India.
