The Gallus Holding AG , based in St. Gallen is an international Swiss manufacturer of label printing - and folding carton printing machines. The company was owned by the Rüesch family until mid-2014 and, in 2011, had a turnover of 201 million Swiss francs with 590 employees. The company has been part of the Heidelberg Group since August 2014 . In July 2020, Heidelberg announced the sale of Gallus to the Swiss benpac holding ag.

history

The company was founded in 1923 as a sole proprietorship Ferdinand Rüesch, Eichmeister (balance factory and machine shop) by Ferdinand Rüesch-Baur and built his first label printing machine in 1925. In the mid-1950s, the company entered the export business and launched a world first in 1960 with the segment punching unit.

The company, which now has around 220 employees, was converted into a stock corporation in 1974 and henceforth traded as Gallus Ferd. Rüesch AG .

With the establishment of its first subsidiary in the United States in 1981, the company also gained a foothold abroad. This strategy was continued particularly in the 1990s, initially with the participation in the German Arsoma Druckmaschinen GmbH in Langgöns and between 1992 and 1996 with the establishment of further subsidiaries in Great Britain, Germany, Australia and Denmark. In 1999 Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG took a 30 percent stake in the Gallus Group. Since then, a cooperation partnership has existed between the two companies. Gallus has been part of the Heidelberg Group since August 2014.

In 2006 the Gallus Group acquired the German BHS Druck- und Veredelungstechnik GmbH in Weiden . This has been operating as Gallus Stanz- und Druckmaschinen GmbH since 2008 and, as the folding box printing division, forms the second pillar of the Gallus Group.
