Oliver Galmo "Gilley" Williams (* 1966 in Bottle Creek, North Caicos ) is a politician of the Progressive National Party (PNP) of the Turks and Caicos Islands , who was Prime Minister of the Turks and Caicos Islands in 2009 .

Life

Williams first attended Bottle Creek Primary School , from which today's Adelaide Oemler Primary School emerged , and then Bottle Creek High School , the forerunner of today's Raymond Gardiner High School . He then completed training in hotel and restaurant management at the Miami Lakes Technical Institute , which he completed with a diploma.

In the 2003 elections, he ran for the Progressive National Party (PNP) in constituency 13 Cheshire Hall and was elected by a large majority to the Member of Parliament (House of Assembly) . Subsequently, on August 15, 2003 he was appointed Minister of the Interior and Public Security in his government by then Chief Minister Michael Misick and as such was responsible for immigration, work, fire protection, prisons, natural disasters, road safety, birth and death records, and emergencies -, search and rescue services, cadet programs and the coast guard. On February 12, 2009 he resigned from his ministerial offices in the cabinet of the now Prime Minister Misick, whereupon Lillian Boyce took over this ministerial office. On February 13, 2009 the previous Deputy Prime Minister and Treasury Secretary Floyd Hall resigned. Prime Minister Misick then announced his own resignation on March 31, 2009 and temporarily took over the post of Finance Minister himself, while Interior Minister Lillian Boyce also became Deputy Prime Minister.

On February 28, 2009, Williams won after three ballots the position as leader of the Progressive National Party (PNP) and succeeded Misicks as party chairman. On March 16, 2009, Governor Gordon Wetherell announced plans to partially suspend the Constitution, dissolving the Cabinet and Parliament, and assuming power for two years to the governor with the assistance of an advisory body. After intense pressure from PNP members Misick resigned against his previous intentions early on March 23, 2009, whereupon Williams took the oath of office as Prime Minister on the afternoon of March 23, 2009 and became the second Prime Minister of the Turks and Caicos Islands. On March 27, 2009, the cabinet was sworn in, which included Royal Robinson as Treasury Secretary and Karen Delancy Secretary of the Interior. On August 14, 2009, the British Foreign Office declared the government of the Turks and Caicos Islands to be dismissed against the will of the PNP on the basis of allegations of corruption. The parliament has now actually been dissolved and the constitution, which regulates the autonomy of Great Britain, was repealed. The official business was taken over by Governor Wetherell. Williams accused the government in London of recolonization and breach of EU law. Four days later, on August 18, 2009, a seven-member provisional government councilor took over the official duties and held them until October 15, 2012.

Galmo Williams is married to Althea Williams and has four children.
