Gamèti (until August 4, 2005: Rae Lakes ), officially Tlicho Community Government of Gameti, is a community in the North Slave Region of the Northwest Territories in Canada .

Surname

The name means "Gamè's place" according to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories, and refers to the surname of the first tribal elders who settled here halfway from Great Slave Lake and Great Bear Lake .

The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Center states the importance of Rabbit Lake. 'Gamè' means 'rabbit' and 'tì' means water or lake.

According to the 2006 Canadian census, Gameti has 283 residents, all of whom are registered as First Nations . Local languages ​​are Tlicho and English .

The community has an airfield. It has no connection to the all-weather road network. In winter there is sometimes an ice road. There is a day care center and the Jean Wetrade School, which teaches until the ninth grade. There is also a post office, an ambulance and the Rae Lakes department store.

Gameti is one of four Tlicho communities that make up the Tlicho Government .
