The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Center in English or Center du patrimoine septentrional Prince-de-Galles in French is a museum and archive in Yellowknife , the capital of Canada's Northwest Territories . It is dedicated to the culture and legacies of the Inuit , Inuvialuit , Dene, Métis and also the non-indigenous inhabitants of the arctic and sub-arctic regions. In addition to the museum, the house houses the Northwest Territories Archives . At the same time, it controls numerous teaching programs that reach most of the 61 municipalities in the territory. After all, it is responsible for excavation permits for archaeological investigations and uses its means to support citizens who are active in the cultural field.

The Heritage Center has a collection of around 100,000 objects that represent the areas of history and culture, flora and fauna and geology. The house is one of the repositories for all the archaeological finds of the territory, they represent the vast majority of the objects.

The archive offers 250,000 historical photographs, 5,000 hours of sound recordings, mostly for oral transmission, and 400 films. There are also 400 meters of shelf meters of written sources.

history

The concept for the Heritage Center came into being in 1971 because of the fear that the archival material and artifacts could otherwise be scattered and get lost. In 1972 the government of the territory approved the plans. On April 16, 1979, the house was opened in the presence of the Prince of Wales, whose title it bears.

The fact that so-called virtual exhibitions, i.e. exhibitions that can be accessed via the Internet, have been put together significantly contributes to the external impact of the museum. James Jerome is one of these . Through a Gwich'in Lens , An Archaeological Expedition to Kuukpak, or Celebrating Yellowknife's 75th Anniversary .
