Gambian hip hop
Gambian hip-hop is a genre of music that was developed by African Americans in New York in the 1970s . A large hip-hop scene built up in Senegal , the Gambia's neighboring country, which had a strong influence on Gambian hip-hop.
In 1999 the local television station Gambia Radio & Television Services presented the first Gambian Rap Award . The first winning crew of the Best Act Awards was called Da Fugitivz , who had raped in Wolof . By winning the band became known in other countries and later appeared at Popkomm , among others .
