Gamelshiel Castle is a ruined castle about 15 km northwest of Duns and about 6 km southeast of Garvald in the Scottish administrative division of East Lothian . It is on the south bank of Hall Burn .
Gamelshiel's lands belonged to the Forrest family in the 16th century and the Homes family in the 17th century . The fragments of the residential tower that have survived to this day consist of its east and west walls. The Tower House was built in the 16th century. The small tower was made of hard, dark quarry stone and covered a base area of about 7 meters by 7 meters. The walls still preserved today are 1.3 meters thick and have been preserved up to a height of 6 meters. The original height of the tower and its exact appearance are unknown, but there is evidence of a vaulted cellar .
Gamelshiel Castle is a Scheduled Monument .
About 600 meters southwest of the castle ruins is the Whiteadder Reservoir .
