Gane Todorovski

Gane Todorovski ( Cyrillic Гане Тодоровски; born May 11, 1929 in Skopje ; † May 22, 2010 ibid) was a Macedonian poet, translator, literary scholar and diplomat.

Life

Todorovski studied at the University of Skopje and published his first volume of poetry Во утрините ( Vo utrinite , English: morning) in 1951 . He received his doctorate with a thesis on the Veda Slovena , a 19th century published, but possibly not authentic collection of folk songs and legends of Bulgarian-speaking Muslims. He then worked as a journalist for the Yugoslav news agency Tanjug and several magazines. Eventually he became professor of Macedonian and Croatian literary history of the 19th century at the University of Skopje. He published other volumes of poetry and scientific publications and was editor of the magazine Mlada Literatura (Young Literature). He was also the editor of several anthologies with poems by foreign language authors. From 1969 to 1971 and 1985/86 he was President of the Macedonian Writers' Union. He received numerous awards and was a member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts .

Gane Todorovski was the first Macedonian ambassador to Russia .
