The passage grave of Berg (also called Bokenäs 4) in the parish of Bokenäs, which was examined in 1887, is located in the Bohuslän province in Sweden . It originated between 3500 and 2800 BC. BC as a megalithic system of the funnel beaker culture (TBK). The passage grave is a form of Neolithic megalithic systems , which consists of a chamber and a structurally separated, lateral passage. This form is primarily found in Denmark, Germany and Scandinavia, as well as occasionally in France and the Netherlands.

description

The west-east oriented passage grave ( swedish passage grift ) lies in a low mound of earth about 16 m in diameter, in the south half of which lies the approximately four meter long oval chamber. Like the south-facing corridor, the chamber is also built from upright stone slabs that characterize Bohuslän's facilities. The chamber has eleven bearing stones and three cantilevered cap stones ( Swedish takhallen ), all of which have been preserved in situ . The slightly off-center corridor consists of nine supporting stones and two (of what was once three) ceiling tiles. There are two stone door frames in the corridor; obviously locking plates were originally attached here. Next to the mouth of the passage are the remains of the former hill border. The system is carefully designed. The spaces between the stones in the chamber and in the corridor are filled with dry masonry .

context

The passage graves in Bohuslän usually have relatively small round or polygonal chambers with an inner diameter of only two to three meters and only one capstone. The corridor can be five to six meters long. There are also passage graves with much larger oval chambers that are up to six meters long and between 1.5 and 2.5 m wide inside. Rectangular chambers, on the other hand, are rare. Sometimes the megalithic complexes have a triangular, acute-angled entrance of the same shape as occurs in part of the province's dolmens .
