The Garden Route ( Afrikaans : Tuinroete ) is a region along the N2 national road on the southern coast of South Africa formed by the Indian Ocean .

It extends from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape Province to almost Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape Province . The main coastal towns on the Garden Route are Mossel Bay, George , Knysna and Plettenberg Bay . Administratively, it lies in the Garden Route district named after it .

The Garden Route is one of the tourist highlights in South Africa and is visited by many tourists every year. The main attractions are the Garden Route National Park and the Knysna lagoon landscape . One of the surf spots is Jeffreys Bay, west of Port Elizabeth .
