Gare du Nord , the station for new music based in Badischer Bahnhof is the venue for the extremely lively and productive contemporary music scene in Switzerland, the three-country region (Basel, Freiburg im Breisgau, Strasbourg) and beyond. As a “station for new music”, it forms a platform for composers, performers and ensembles on the contemporary music scene. Located in the historic rooms of the former station buffet in the Badischer Bahnhof in Basel , the extraordinary venue has positioned itself in Basel's cultural life since the first season in 2002 and has become a meeting place for new music and its audience. As a music station, bar and meeting point, Gare du Nord invites you to collaborate across disciplines and borders and is at the same time a place of departure as well as relaxation.

The program encompasses a broad spectrum of contemporary music of the 20th and 21st centuries, from chamber music to electronic music and sophisticated jazz . In around 100 events per season, Gare du Nord presents composed and improvised music in the form of concerts, sound installations and musical theater .
In addition to a large number of individual productions, rows structure the varied program: the Ensemble Phœnix Basel, under the musical direction of Jürg Henneberger, is "ensemble in residence" at the Gare du Nord with three to four concert programs per season and its own rehearsal room. The “Nachtstrom” series of the Basel Music Academy regularly invites guests from home and abroad and gives students and graduates of the electronic studio the opportunity to present their works. In the “Dialogue” series, Marcus Weiss has a conversation with a musician. Returning guests at the Gare du Nord are the Mondrian Ensemble Basel and the camerata variabile . The IGNM Basel and the Swiss Chamber Concerts offer different formations with different program focuses several times per season.

Since 2004 there has been a separate program area for children and young people with the gare des enfants . Under the artistic direction of Sylwia Zytynska, the "gare des enfants" offers a series of thrilling, experimental plays and workshops in which children can not only watch but often also take part.
