Garopaba is a city (port. Município ) in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina . It is located on the Atlantic coast about 80 kilometers south of the city of Florianópolis .

The colony was founded in 1666 by settlers from the Azores . On December 19, 1961, it received city rights.

The city's beaches are considered a surfer's paradise . One of the main employers is the city-based company Mormaii , which was also founded there , which produces clothing for surfing needs (e.g. neoprene suits ) and sells them worldwide.

The novel “Flut” by the Brazilian writer Daniel Galera is set mainly in Garopaba.
