Horticultural building

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The horticultural building stood at Wiener Parkring 12 until 1960. The two-storey, palais-like building of the Wiener Gartenbaugesellschaft was one of the first buildings to be built on Vienna's Ringstrasse and was built in 1863-64 by the architect August Weber , who was also the builder of the Wiener Künstlerhaus . The initially elegant character of the establishment was lost over time; the regulatory plan of 1893 provided for a higher building class. It was gradually demolished in the 1950s. After heated discussions, it was finally replaced by the horticultural tower.
