Gary Knudson

Gary Knudson (* 1960 in St. Louis ) is an American composer.

Knudson began his music studies at the University of North Texas at Denton with Phil Winsor and Larry Austin and was already involved in computer music and algorithmic composition . He attended master classes and seminars a. a. with Bertram Turetzky , Sydney Hodkinson , Salvatore Martirano , James Dashow , Alvin Curran , Robert Dick , Carl Stone , David Ward-Steinman , James Fulkerson , Robert Moran , Charles Dodge , John Chowning , Art Gottschalk and Karl Korte .

In the 1990s, Knudson worked as a software developer, programmer, network administrator and analyst for various computer companies in Nashville. In the late 1990s he founded Liquid Sphere Studios , where he researches and works in the field of computer music, algorithmic composition, sound synthesis, interactive, multimedia and installation art.

During his graduate studies at the University of North Texas, he taught at the Center for Experimental Music and Intermedia (CEMI). In 2005 he received a doctorate in music specializing in computer music. His compositions have been performed in the USA and abroad. a. at art @ radio at the University of Maryland , the Imagine II Electro-Acoustic Music Festival and at ZenMan Improvisations in Germany (through Ulrich Maiß ). Knudson is a member of the American Music Center , the National Association of Composers, USA , The Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States, and the International Computer Music Association, and is President of the Composers' Forum of the University of North Texas.
