Cellist Ulrich Maiss

Ulrich Maiß (also Cellectric ; * 1967 in Düsseldorf ) is a German cellist.

Life

Maiß studied the cello first as a young student at the Folkwang University in Essen and Duisburg, then at the Berlin University of the Arts . Among other things, he is known as an interpreter of contemporary chamber music.

He worked with Robert Wilson , Lou Reed , Zülfü Livaneli , Al DiMeola , Joseph “Butch” Rovan and Theodor Franck , among others . Through his studio work he is involved in productions by u. a. Element of Crime , Metallica , ChillFactor 5, Vinx and Alexander Veljanov . His solo projects in the field of experimental music and the musical collaboration with various folk and rock formations took him across Western Europe, Greece and Turkey to Japan, the USA and Canada. In his repertoire is a solo interpretation of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music under the title CelloMachine . With Lou Reed and Robert Wilson he developed the production Lulu at the Berliner Ensemble . Maiß performed with the Turkish author, filmmaker and singer Zülfü Livaneli and worked with the Italian musician Paolo Eleodori (Duo Maori ). As a border crosser between experimental music and visual arts, he worked with Ernst v. Hopffgarten (Wendland) and Christof Hartmann (Düsseldorf) together.

Around 2016 Ulrich Maiß worked together with the Rostock singer Dani Voigt on the experimental music project Greenglass . He worked for several years as a lecturer and teacher in Rostock . He now runs a wine shop in Schwerin , where he regularly gives cello concerts.
