Gaspard Koenig (* 1982 ) is a French essayist and philosopher as well as president of the think tank Génération Libre , which he founded in 2013. He is considered a proponent of liberalism .

Life

Gaspard Koenig is the son of Jean-Louis Hue, former editor of the magazine littéraire , and the literary critic Anne-Marie Koenig. After attending the Lycée Henri-IV in Paris, Koenig was admitted to the École normal supérieure de Lyon in 2002, completed a one-year university exchange year at Columbia University in New York and received his habilitation in philosophy in 2004.

After working with Gilles Deleuze and his interest in epistemological questions, he devoted himself to French liberal philosophy during a year of study at Columbia University.

He began his professional career as a lecturer in philosophy at the Université Lille-III . He then worked for two years in the office of Economics Minister Christine Lagarde . In 2009 he moved to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London.

In June 2012 he joined the PLD (Parti libéral démocrate).

He left the civil service in 2013 to found the Génération Libre think tank , which advocates " liberal Jacobinism ". In particular, she advocates an unconditional basic income. He has been teaching philosophy and general culture at SKEMA Business School since 2018 .

Gaspard Koenig defends a classical liberalism inspired by the French revolutionaries, in which the state occupies a central place and which presents itself as a means of “liberating” the individual from paternalism. This “liberal Jacobinism” is theorized in Koenig's work Le Révolutionnaire, l'Expert et le Geek .
