Guest auditor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guest auditor (also known as a listener or guest student ) is the name given to a person who attends teaching hours or lectures in schools or universities on their own initiative and without obligations . In contrast to the guest student , a guest student completes exams.

Most of the guest auditors are to be found at universities or technical colleges. The group of people is not enrolled in a course there . Guest audiences are only registered, usually for a fee. The guest auditor is only interested in the style or the knowledge imparted in the course, not a proof of performance that could be achieved by attending the same course. Guest students are generally not entitled to be examined. They are often adults who are interested in certain topics or foreign students who are not looking for something learned at their own university. At universities that do not offer their own senior course , senior citizens can attend regular events as guest auditors.

For students, according to the respective higher education law of the state or federal state, there is often the opportunity to take part in courses as a second student (guest student) or to attend these and thus incorporate them into their course of study. In some cases, the guest student status is also useful in order to be able to use university facilities at all or to be able to use them more extensively.

According to the Federal Statistical Office , 38,200 guest students were registered at German universities in the 2006/07 winter semester. That was about four percent more than ten years ago. In the winter semester 2011/12 this number was only 34,600. The reasons for the decrease of 10 percent compared to the winter semester 2010/11 were, among other things, fee increases for guest studies at individual universities and the easing of university access for those with professional qualifications.
