The Gasthuiskapel in Tholen

The Gasthuiskapel St. Laurens ( German  Hospital Chapel St. Laurentius ) is an Evangelical Reformed chapel in Tholen ( province of Zeeland ) in the Netherlands .

history

In 1312 a hospital with an accompanying chapel was founded in Tholen, which was consecrated to St. Lawrence. In 1452 the hospital also fell victim to the great Tholen town fire. Around 1460, the core of the chapel was given its late Gothic appearance during restoration work. In the course of the introduction of the Reformation in 1578, the chapel lost its purpose and was subsequently used as a storage room. During the Eighty Years War it was also the location of a hospital . In 1631 the hospital was relocated and the chapel was converted into a residential building. As part of a renovation in 1974/75, it was restored as a church building and today serves as a place of worship for the Reformed Immanuel community in Tholens.

The parish belongs to the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, which was created in 2004 .
