Gastric space

The gastric space or gastrovascular system is the “stomach” of the cnidarians or flatworms . It is usually a cavity system complicated by pockets or ducts, which, since it serves not only for digestion but also for the distribution of nutrients, is known as the gastrovascular system. It is lined by the gastrodermis and has only one opening, the mouth being the anus at the same time.

The inner cavity of the sponges is also known as the gastric space, it is lined by choanocytes .
