Restaurant to Altenburg
The restaurant Zur Altenburg is a listed building in Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .
location
The building is registered in the Quedlinburg monument register and is located in a wooded area southwest of the city of Quedlinburg, at the address Unter der Altenburg 2. The house is about 200 meters north of the street, on a hillside well above the street.
Architecture and history
The fulling mill under the Altenburg existed at this point until 1760 . In the second half of the 19th century, today's building was built in the Wilhelminian style as a conversion or new construction of a mountain tavern in massive brick construction. Contrasting building materials were used to design the house. The south gable of the house facing the valley has a so-called floating gable made of wood (not visible in the picture). Some of the doors and windows are still in their original condition or appearance.
Until 2007 the public restaurant "Zur Altenburg" was operated in the house. After renovations, the building is now mainly used for residential purposes. The guest rooms and the outdoor area are rented out for private events. The inscription "Restaurant Altenburg" has been preserved.
