The Gauss Beach is a beach on Heard in the southern Indian Ocean . It is north of Mangoro Head on the shores of West Bay .
The beach is named after the Gauß , the research ship of the Gauß expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of the German polar explorer Erich von Drygalski , which called Heard in February 1902.
