from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The agreement on the Palestinian partial autonomy in the Gaza Strip and the Jericho Area , just Gaza-Jericho Agreement , including Cairo Agreement or Cairo Agreement called, was on 4 May 1994 in Cairo by Yitzhak Rabin of Israel and Yasser Arafat for the PLO signed .

This agreement was created in follow-up negotiations to the 1993 declaration of principles on temporary self-government . It led to a specification of the autonomous rights of Palestinian territories .

The Palestinian Authority (Article III, “Transfer of Authority”) was founded and Yasser Arafat was its first president on July 5, 1994. It was awarded their self-governing area. The agreement brought the city of Jericho and the Gaza Strip under Palestinian control (with the exception of the Israeli territories).

Other parts of the agreement regulated the economic administration of the Palestinian territories and their dovetailing with the Israeli economy, and the contracting parties also provided for the formation of a Palestinian Civil Police (PCP).

The agreement was slightly modified in the interim agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip of September 24 and 28, 1995 ( Oslo II ).
