Hysteroscopy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hysteroscopy is the medical term for transvaginal viewing ( mirroring ) of the inside of the uterus using an endoscope .

Applications

submucosal myoma on the back wall of the uterus

In gynecology , hysteroscopy is used for diagnosis and, as operative hysteroscopy, also for therapy:

  • For operations in the uterus, somewhat thicker hysteroscopes, resectoscopes and another, non-conductive irrigation solution are used. Myomas and polyps can be removed from the uterine cavity . Removal of the uterine lining can also be attempted in this way to treat long and heavy menstrual periods (endometrial ablation). High-frequency electricity is used to stop bleeding. In hysteroscopy, a tissue sample is not taken “blindly” , but performed under visual control.
