The area backdrop or area backdrop is a term from spatial planning and describes a delimited area that consists of individual sub-areas that are homogeneous in terms of geography and nature conservation .

Based on the term backdrop , an area backdrop is an area that is proposed at an earlier stage of the planning process and is made smaller in the course of further planning and participation processes.

The term is used, among other things, in the planning and definition of protected areas in nature and landscape protection , for example national parks in Germany , as well as areas for wind turbines .
